Mcleodganj Photography Tour

TOUR INTRODUCTION: Mcleodganj Triund tour

Mcleodganj is a small town in Dhauladhar mountain range famous for it’s natural beauty and Buddhist culture. It’s called Little Lhasa due to large number of Tibetan refugees living there. It is also the capital for Tibetan government in exile led by Dalai Lama. For tourists and photographers, this place is full of numerous places of natural beauty and cultural significance. There are old temples, waterfalls, monasteries, forested areas, small villages and many other places of interest which attract numerous visitors from all over the world. This photography expedition is meant to help the visiting photographers hone their photography skills and capture some great shots under the guidance of an expert photographer. This photo tour contains a mix of different types of photography including landscapes, people, building, markets, nature, art and more.

TRIP SUMMARY:

TRIP ITINERARY:

DAY 1: The guests will meet up with  and their photography guide in the hotel and spend some time going over some essential tour details and getting to know each other.  The guide will offer a few tips and instructions for the trip and photography techniques. After breakfast, we will take a photo walk in the town led by the photography guide. The day will be spent walking in the markets, taking pictures of markets, locals and nearby wooded areas. We’ll also visit Tsuglag Khang monastery, the residence of Dalai Lama along with a few other local places of interest. This day, we can take pictures of these Buddhist temples and the monks debating with each other in their unique way.

DAY 2: This day will begin with a visit to Bhagsu waterfall, a small yet very picturesque waterfall, near an ancient temple. Later on, we will visit  St. John in the wilderness church and the old cemetery nearby. From there, we will walk to small but beautiful Dal Lake and to Naddi sunset point where the road ends. From Naddi we’ll be able to see our jungle trail for next day a few kms away.

DAY 3: We’ll take a short hike to a lesser known but beautiful waterfall in Dharmkot. Not many people know of this place and it’s accessible only via a hiking route through thick jungle.  The hiking route as well as waterfall offer some really beautiful options for taking beautiful pictures. There are numerous birds, flowering plants and insects like butterflies and ladybugs all around. After coming back, we will spend some time in the village nearby.

Day 4: This day we’ll hike to Triund, a 6 km hike from Dharmkot. It’s a pretty easy hike with gentle inclines apart from a small stretch at the end. There are ample resting points by way of small tea stalls, so it can be completed by almost anyone. It’s quite common to come across snowbanks till early summers. On the way, you will see hundreds of different varieties of trees, birds, small animals and insects which make for very interesting picture subjects. Triund by itself is a beautiful ridge with mind blowing views of snow covered mountain peaks. Later on we will go back the same way to our hotel for rest and to end the tour.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  1. If this is your first time visiting such high altitude places, consult a doctor first to check for any medical condition which may prove problematic. Usually it is not an issue if you are generally healthy but better to be safe than sorry as people with some medical conditions like BP, respiratory and cardiac issues may face some problems.
  2. Travel programs in the mountains not necessarily would always run exactly as scheduled. Allow for unplanned long days or early camps due to weather disruptions or similar causes.
  3. There are places with limited communication possibility and/or medical facilities nearby on this route.
  4. Participants should be prepared for cold conditions with strong winds and high wind chill factor.
  5. Any additional expenses which might occur due to delays, weather disruptions, medical evacuation etc. would need to be borne by the participants. All overstay due to weather disruption, road blocks and similar which are not under our control would be charged as per tour cost for planned days.

Kunjapuri Rishikesh hike at sunrise

INTRODUCTION: Uttarakhand Rishikesh Hikes

Kunjapuri is situated at an altitude of 1650 meters  very near Rishikesh and provides excellent panoramic view of  Himalayan mountains and valleys.  It is a religious place and thousands of devotees visit during Navrataras and Dusshera. For tourists, it’s an excellent place to see sunrise and sunset over the Himalayan mountain peaks.

ITINERARY

The car or bike will pick you up at 4:00 am to 5:00 am and take you to  Kunjapuri (26 km). We will then hike till sunrise point and enjoy view as the sun comes up from behind the mountains. After sunrise, hike to Kunjapuri temple and have a light breakfast. After this, we will walk back to Rishikesh through a small but scenic route, around 13 km long. We can also drive back if so preferred. We’ll reach Laxman Jhula to end the hike.

Dayara Bugyal Trek

INTRODUCTION Camping trips in mountains

Bugyal is the local word for a grass covered highland pasture region and this region of Uttarkhand boasts of many scenic Bugyals. Dayara Bugyal is famous for it’s scenic beauty, gentle slopes suitable for skiing. It’s a popular skiing destination during winter season of January to March. For rest of the year, Dyara Bugyal offers an easy yet highly reqarding trek for nature lovers. The trekkers get to see clear panoramic views of the important Gangotri range, origin of river Ganga. The trek route passes through scenic forests full of trees, plants, animals and birds of hundreds of different species and offers magnificent views of snow covered Himalayan mountain peaks all around. The trek gives you the opportunity to visit one of the best bugyals in Uttarakhand.

TREK ITINERARY :

Day 01 : HARIDWAR/RISHIKESH – BARSU (2200 m) Drive of 220 kms, 6-7 hours)
After pickup in morning, we drive towards Barsu through a few small towns like Uttarkashi, Bhatwari and a few others. We will stay in a campsite, about 2-3 kms above the village (or in a small guest house in Barsu). It’s good place to spot many different types of birds.

Day 02 : BARSU – BARNALA BUGYAL – DAYARA BUGYAL
The trek to Dayara Bugyal passes through another picturesque bugyal call Barnala Bugyal. Once we pass the tree line, the views change to a majestic one of snow covered peaks in distance everywhere. After walking for about 6 hours, we reach Dayara and setup camp. Spend some time exploring nearby places like Gidara Bugyal and Assi Ganga Valley.

Day 03 : DAYARA BUGYAL – BARSU – RISHIKESH
After breakfast, we walk towards Barsu and drive back towards Rishikesh or Hairdwar for drop.

Deoaria Taal to Chandrashila Trek

TREK INTRODUCTION: Camping trips in India

This is one of the few treks which is open almost all year in Uttarakhand region. It offers excellent views of mountain peaks, forests and chance of spotting various types of birds and wild animals. A 1000 years old Tungnath temple lies enroute which is an important pilgrimage spot for Hindus and is the site for many mythological stories. Deoria Taal is a small lake on top of hill and that too is apicturesque place with excellent views and dense forest. The itinerary mentioned can be adjusted with starting point in Chopta and shortened or lengthened to include or exclude some places.

Day 01 : RISHIKESH – SARI 190 km drive in 5-6 hours
Day 02 : SARI – DEORIA TAAL( 2400m )
Day 03 : DEORIA TAAL – CHOPTA (2600 m) trek of 5-6 hours
Day 04 : CHOPTA TO TUNGNATH TEMPLE (3400m) TO CHANDRASHILA (3925m) and back (8 hours)
Day 05 : CHOPTA – RISHIKESH drive. 5 hours.

Day 01 : RISHIKESH – SARI ( Drive 200 kms in 5-6 hours)
Pickup can be provided from Rishikesh or Haridwar according to preference of guests. The drive normall takes about 5 hours from Rishikesh. As oone passes Rishikesh the mountainous area starts. Night in a small guest house or homestay in Sari village.

Day 02 : SARI TO DEORIA TAL (2400 m) – 8 KM in 4 hours
We will first visit the famous Ukhimath temple before taking up the trail which goes up till Deoria Taal. It is a small lake on top of the hill with magnificent views of Himalayan mountain ranges all around. THere is a small clearing for campsite.

Day 03 : DEORIATAL – CHOPTA (2600m, trek /5-6 hours)
Next day, we will walk on the trail which passes through dense forest, occassional meadows and some mountain streams towards Chopata, a small village at the bottom of Tungnath and ChandraShila. This hike is extremely picturesque and offers amazing views of lush green forests. Night in campsite or a small guesthouse. Chopta remains deserted during winters when it snows.

Day 04 : CHOPTA TO TUNGNATH TEMPLE (3400m) TO CHANDRASHILA (3925m) AND RETURN TO CHOPTA (2347m) 15KM ( 8 hours)
We will start climbing up the trail and progress for about 3 hours to reach Tungnath temple. There path is paved ith stones and is usually easy to walk on. Chandrashila peak lies about 500 m above the temple and is slightly more difficult to get to during winters. There is yet another very small temple on top which seess an occassional visitor every now and then. Enjoy the beautiful view from top before going back to the campsite for dinner and rest.

Day 05 : CHOPTA – HARIDWAR or RISHIKESH
Drive back to Haridwar or Rishikesh to end the trip.

Trek to Kedarkantha

INTRODUCTION Camping in Himalaya mountains

Kedarkantha peak is situated lies at an altitude of 3850 m in the majestic mountains of Tons river valley. It is a beautiful ridge peak; which is fairly easily accessible at almost anytime of the year. During winter season, snow covered valley and mountains offer a majestic and peaceful view. The trek route passes through Govind national park and offers great oppurtunity to enjoy the beauty of diverse and unique flora and fauna of the region. ime to soak in the flora and fauna of this protected area. TREK ITINERARY:

Day 1: DEHRADUN TO SANKRI (210kms) – 8 hours drive
Early morning start from Dehradun in a car and reach Sankri by late afternoon. Last 22 km of the road passes through Govind National park, a beautiful but bumpy ride through lush green forest. Night in a local guesthouse.

Day 2: EXPLORING SANKRI AND TREK TO JUDA TALAB (2850m) – 10 kms
Trek towards Juda Talab via route which passes through Saud village. You will come across local villagers collecting firewood and other stuff from the forest every now and then. Campsite is located near Juda lake and is surrounded by tall tress and mountain slopes.

Day 3: JUDA TALAB TO KEDAR KANTH MEADOW – 6 kms
Next morning, we will hike through a forest of pine and oak trees to reach a clearing just below Kedarkantha peak. This place offers excellent views of the area and is the most picturesque place of this trek as the trekkers can see a long way in every direction. Night stay in camp site.

Day 4: CLIMB KEDARKANTHA PEAK (3850 m) AND TREK BACK TO SANKRI
Due to long walk back, we start early and reach to top of ridge by noon which takes about 2 hours on a normal day. After enjoying the views and some rest, we walk back to our campsite for lunch and aletr on back to Sankri to spend the night in a guest house.
Day 5: SANKRI TO DEHRADUN (210 kms)
Drive back to Dehradun for drop there.

Nag Tibba Trek

INTRODUCTION  Trekking trips in Uttarakhand mountains

Nag Tibba is scenic and picturesque spot in the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayas. This mountain peak is at an altitude of 3100 m and offers spectacular views of Banderpoonch range, Yamuna river valley peaks and Mussourie town . Pir Punjal, Dhauladhar and Nag Tibba mountain ranges are the 3 main ranges of the lower Himalayas. It also finds a mention in a famous book ‘7 years in Tibet’ which chronicles the escape of German mountaineer Hienrich Harrier from British into Tibet during World War 2. The range owes it’s name to a temple dedicated to Nag Devta. Snakes have always had an important and sacred place in Hindu mythology as they are said to represent the cycle of birth, death and rebirth by way of shedding their skin and various other legends and stories. Villagers from nearby consider the deity of this temple as the protector of their cattle and other domesticated animals.

TREK ITINERARY:

Day 01 : Dehradun – Campsite. 3-4 hours Drive or 4 hours hike

We will start early morning drive from Dehradun towards Pantwari village. This will take us behind the Mussourie ridge and in to area used by shepherds as their grazing ground. The regions is full of terrace farms, grazing grounds and flocks of sheep and goats all over. There are a lot of flowering trees and plants and doznes of different types of birds every where. Our campsite is at some height from village and has a profusion of nuerous plants like mint and edible green leafy vegetables.

Day 02 : Water Campsite – Nagtibba Top (3-4 hours) – Nagtibba Base Campsite (1 hour )

After breakfast we climb up the hill to Nag Devta temple which is an old bilding without any preist. Locals visit and clean the temple every few days. The open space near temple is used as a grazing ground. Nag Tibba ridge continues on further on an incline and takes about 1 hour to cover. The surrounding forest is full of numerous varieties of trees including oak and rhododendrons. After lunch, back to Nag Tibba campsite.

Day 03 : Nagtibba Base – Pantwari ( 3-4 hours) – Dehradun (3-4 hours Drive )

Taking the same route back, we will first hike till Pantwari and then drive back to Dehradun.
