This 27 days long trip is a great way of discovering the Himalayan mountain ranges spread in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. In this journey, the travelers will explore the amazing variety of terrain, weather, people, sights and food which make traveling in India such a life altering experience. From high altitude deserts of  Spiti to lush green Kashmir valley, this adventure tour package takes you through some  of the toughest and most exciting roads, jaw dropping sights and remote human settlements. Following itinerary can be adjusted to suit shorter schedules too.

Day 01: Delhi Arrival india-himalayas-mountains-travel
Arrival at Delhi Airport and transfer to the hotel. Free rest day

Day 02: Delhi – Chandigarh – Shimla (380 kms) (9 hours) (2100 meters)
Drive or take train towards Chandigarh early morning after breakfast, You will have lunch in Chandigarh. After lunch, drive towards Shimla by car where you will stay for the night. Go for a stroll on the famous Mall road in evening,

Day 03Shimla – Narkanda – Hattu Peak – Rampur – Jeori – Sarahan. (175 Km)
Next morning, drive from Shimla and enroute visit Kufri, Theog, Matiana, Narkanda etc. depending upon weather and available time. Take a short hike to Hattu Peak (3135 Meter) and walk back to the Jeep. Lunch will be served either in Narkanda or Sainj. After lunch, drive on to Rampur through Jeori to reach Sarahan for a overnight stay.
Day 04: Sarahan – Wangtu – Karcham – Sangla (92 Km) (4 hours) (2600 meters)
Early morning visit to bird park in Sarhan to begin the day. Then visit the famous Bhim Kali temple which used to see human sacrifice many centuries past. After visit to this temple, drive towards Karcham and pass over Wangtu bridge. After a rest stop, you will reach Sangla and check in at hotel. If there is enough time, you can visit Kamra Fort and temple of the village deity.

Day 05: Sangla – Chitkul – Sangla – Kalpa. (110 Km)
After an early breakfast, begin driving towards Chitkul (3460 Meters) which is the last village on India Tibet border. Take leisurely hikes and explore the area for 3-4 hours. Drive back to Sangla for lunch and later drive through Powari to visit the monastery in Reckong – Peo which is famous for it 60 feet tall statue of Buddha. Next drive to Kalpa for a overnight stay. If time permits, visit the monastery & the orphanage in Kalpa. Enjoy breathtaking view of Kinner Kailash (6050 meters) at sunset.

Day 06: Kalpa – Nako – Tabo (170 Km)
Have breakfast and then drive through Reckong – Peo through Powari as the green landscape changes to that of a high altitude desert. Pass through the mountainous desert terrain and pass Puh to reach Nako for overnight stay. Visit the Nako Lake and Monastery of Nako. Take a walk through the village and get in car again to reach Tabo (3050 meters ). First stop will be 1000 years old monastery. Overnight in a guest house in Tabo.

Day 07: Tabo – Dhankar – Lalung (45 Km) (4,000 meters) Himachal-Pradesh- Spiti-river
Leave Tabo after breakfast and short walk in village. Drive for 32 Km to reach Dhankar, the old capital of Kaza. Visit Dhankar monastery and spend some time with old lamas there. Drive further 10 Km to reach Lalung village to visit the Lalung Monastery and enjoy views of nearby mountains. Over night in home stay.

Day 08: Lalung – Demul – Kaza (60 Km) (4-5 hours) (4,300 meters)
Leave Lalung after breakfast and drive down towards picturesque Lingti valley to reach Demul by lunch time. After lunch in Demul, drive down towards Kaza, capital of of Spiti valley and also the district headquarters. .Overnight stay in hotel.

Day 09: Kaza—Key monestry—Kibber (40km)
After a leisurely breakfast, drive to historic Key monastery, After spending some time there, drive towards world’s highest motorable village Kibber (4205m) and enjoy the scenic beauty of the region. After having lunch in Kibber, take a short hike and enjoy the views. Overnight stay in Kibber or in Kaza according to preference.

Day 10: Kaza —Losar—Kunzum la— Chandrataal Lake (85 kms) (4 hours)
After an early morning wakeup, you will reach Chandrataal Lake while passing through Kunzum La (4551 m). where most travelers stop to pay respects to the deity and pray for safe journey. Night will be spent in a campsite about 1 km from the lake.Meaning of Chandrataal is Moon Lake and is a major attraction of Spiti.

Day 11: Chandrataal Lake – Rohtang—Keylong (112 km)
After breakfast, take a walk around Chandartal lake before leaving for Manali while driving through Batal, Chota Darra, Gramphu and Rohtang pass (3970 m). The route is highly picturesque and once you cross Rohtang, the terrain gets much greener as it receives heavy rainfall compared to drier Lahaul Spiti region.

Day 12: Keylong Jispa – Trilokinaath – Udaipur – Keylong Jispa (130 kms)  himachal-pradesh-chandratal-lake-hike
In the morning drive towards Trilokinaath after breakfast and visit the temple of Lord Shiva. Next stop will be Udaipur’s famous Mrikula Devi temple. It has detailed wooden carvings. In the evening, drive back towards Keylong. Overnight stay in hotel in Keylong or Jispa.

Day 13: Keylong/Jispa – Baralacha La (4830 m) – Sarchu – Talglang la – Leh (250 kms) (11-12 hours) (350kms)
This day, you cross in to Leh part of Jammu and Kashmir state. You will drive via Baralacha La and Tanglang La pass (5400 m) which is the 2nd highest motorable road in world. Driving down the pass, you will reach Upshi for rest. Leh is about 3 hour drive from here and you will checkin the hotel late evening for sleep.

Day 14: Leh – Local sighteseeing or free day (75 kms) (5-6 hours)
This day, you can either choose to rest after the long drive previous day and explore the stunning town on you own
or do sightseeing with guide. After breakfast, drive for full day sightseeing of Shey Palace, Thiksey & Hemis monasteries. You can also visit Stok Palace Museum. Lunch will be at Thiksey. Reach back hotel in Leh in the evening for sleep.

Day 15: Leh – Nubra Valley (125 kms) (4-5 hours)
After an early breakfast, drive to Nubra valley at an distance of 125 km via Khardong La which at 6120 meters is the world highest motorable pass. You will reach Nubra by noon and checkin at the Camp/ Hotel. Later proceed to visit the white Sand Dunes, Camels & Diskit Monastery. Overnight stay at Camps.

Day 16: Nubra – Leh (125 kms) (4-5 hours)
Next morning, visit Samstanling Monastery and spend a few hours relaxing and admiring it’s cultural and archeological treasures. Later drive back to Leh. Arrive Leh by 4 pm. If you feel like it, you can explore the town on foot.

Day 17: Leh – Pangong Lake- Leh (250 kms) (4-5hours) 
This day will cover a full day trip to Pangong Lake 250 kms away from Leh. It is one of the biggest natural brackish lakes in Asia. It’s been the sight for numerous movie shoots. Enjoy a picnic lunch next to lake. After lunch, drive back towards Leh. Overnight stay in Hotel in Leh.

Day 18: Leh – Alchi – Lamayuru – Kargil.
This morning, you will drive to Alchi and enroute visit Basgo Palace, Liker Monastery & Pathar Sahib Gurudwara.By lunch time, you will reach Lamayuru Lamayuru, the Oldest Monastery inn Central Ladakh Region. On the way, you will view spectacular sights of the Himalayan mountain ranges. Giant Maitreya Buddha statue on the way To Kargil at Mulbekh is another attraction. You will reach Kargil by the evening. Overnight stay at Kargil.
Day 19: Kargil – Rangdum– Padum (3550 m) Himachal-Pradesh- Spiti-Lohsar
First stop of the day will be Rangdum. After driving for a short while, we reach Suru valley which is considered one of the most beautiful regions of Laddakh region. You will enjoy the view of massive Nun and Kun peaks at some distance and the Parkachik glacier. There are numerous other unnamed glaciers and snow covered peaks on the way. After lunch, you will proceed to Zanskar, one of the remotest places on the planet. An hour drive from Rangdum is the Penzila pass (4200 m) only pass to Zanskar. You can also see the famous Darang Durung glacier on this route. This area is very scenic and you will find many shepherd huts here .Upon arrival check in hotel at Padum.

Day 20: Sight seeing of Karsha monastery, Chuchik jal Nunnery, Kalachakra temple
This morning, get in to car and drive 10 kms to Karsha to visit Geluk Pa monastery of Zanskar. Close to the monastery there is a Buddhist nunnery which has eleven headed big statue of Avaloketeshvra. It is believed to be 800 years old. Drive back to hotel and enjoy a hot meal. In the afternoon visit the majestic Kalachakra temple, devoted to His Holiness The Dalai Lama who has taught about Kalachakra in 1988. Overnight Stay at hotel.

Day 21: Sight seeing of lowers part of Zanskar, Zngkhul and Sani.
After morning breakfast drive 35 km along the Zanskar River to Zangla visit the Zangla palace and nunnery..Afterwards drive back towards Tongde to visit Tongde monastery which is the second largest Geluk Pa monastery in Zanskar. After lunch we will visit one of the most sacred monastery Zanskar, Zonghul which is 35 km drive from Padum. Zongkhul monastery was blessed by the great Indian yogi, the great Naropa in 11th century. There are two meditation caves. The older one has beautiful paintings dating back to hundreds of years. On way back to hotel, visit Sani palace , famous for the sacred Kaniska Stupa and Naropa temple. You can also visit the sacred lake and enjoy your meal here. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 22: Padum – Kargil (234 km)
Early morning departure to Kargil. We will stop at a few places on way for meals, sightseeing and rest. Overnight stay at hotel in Kargil.

Day 23: Kargil – Drass – Sonamarg – Srinagar.
After breakfast we leave early for Srinagar by crossing Drass which holds the world record for 2nd coldest inhabited place on earth only after Siberia. You will cross Zojila Pass, where you get a spectacular view of famous Kargil peaks made famous by 1999 war. (Tiger, Tololing and others ). You will pass Sonmarg to reach Srinagar in evening.

Day 24: Srinagar Local Sightseeing.
This day is dedicated to local sightseeing in Srinagar. You will visit a few attractions like Dal Lake, Chashma Shahi, Shalimar and Nishat Baghs, Shankracharya Temple etc.

Day 25: Srinagar – Pahalgam.
After having breakfast, get in to car to visit Pahalgam which is approximately 2 hours drive from Srinagar. On the way, you can stop at expansive saffron fields and Awantipura Ruins. Overnight stay at hotel in Pahalgam.

Day 26: Pahalgam – Gulmarg – Srinagar
On this day you will visit Gulmarg and see it’s rolling grassands, forests and streams/ It’s about a 3 hours drive from Pahalgam. This place is known as – Meadow of flowers and boasts of a golf course and a rope way. You can also enjoy a horse ride here if you wish. Drive back to Srinagar for night’s stay.

Day 27: Srinagar – Jammu (350kms) (6-7 hours)
After breakfast in the morning drive down towards Jammu from Srinagar. By late afternoon reach Jammu and catch your flight or train back to New Delhi or any other destination of your choice. Your tour ends here. You can also take your flight from Srinagar the previous day if you wish.
